According to LAist, first up is a new 40-person patio, which will be built along the west-facing wall of the restaurant, presumably where the parking spaces are now.

Construction on that starts this week, apparently.

LAist says it will be surrounded by trees. The kitchen will also be redone, along with the menu.

It will be overseen by Danny Aldaco, formerly of Animal, among others. The launch will be July 4.

As LAist notes, the Brite Spot's been haunted by a diner vibe, even after menu changes in late 2003, which is when the clientele really started changing.

(There was a time when you could meet union FILM projectionists and other studio system refugees hanging out there pretty regularly.)

Dana Hollister, a long-time local and now full-owner,  says she hopes to again make the Brite Spot a place for everyone--with a brightened interior and updated comfort food.

Maybe those projectionists will be back.
