BACKGROUND: Open Neighborhoods and the Sierra Club's LA Beyond Coal Campaign announced that the organizations will co-host a solar tour on Sunday, October 2, 2011 to showcase innovative green buildings and homes and to demonstrate how homeowners can use energy efficiency, solar energy and other sustainable practices to reduce utility bills.
Solar-powered residents and businesses in Silver Lake are invited to participate in the tour by signing up at www.opensilverlake.net/solartour. Download flyer (PDF).
The Silver Lake Solar Tour will combine guided and self-guided tours of structures, including residences, businesses, and public buildings. The event will provide attendees with an opportunity to learn about solar power on an intimate level from people who have already embraced solar energy. Topics explored with the owners will cover a range of issues, including why choose solar, researching solar power, choosing an installer, costs and financial incentives, the installation process, system design, effect on monthly electric bill, maintenance, etc.
