Maggie Siff Wins Micheltorena Screwball Spelling Bee

The actor spelled "raconteur" to win the first annual event.

 

Belly laughs were the order of the day as about a dozen teams spelled their way to raising about $25,000 for Silver Lake's Micheltorena Elementary School.

A team of parents and supporters of the Citizens of the World charter school represented by on-stage speller Jill Solloway made it to the final round.

CWC will be housed at Micheltorena in the fall and the team showed up to show their support.

But it was actress Maggie Siff who was the last person standing, spelling "raconteur" to win as her competitior in the final round slipped up on"lysergic acid diethylamide."

Siff, a local, is best known for her roles on Mad Men and Sons of Anarchy.

The event was held at the Assistance League Children's Theater in East Hollywood.

The Spelling Bee Company, a nonprofit fundraising firm founded by the Tony award-winning creators of the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, kept things moving with partially improvised, but always hilarious performances.
