Sandblasting To Signal Switch in Rowena-Glendale Traffic Delays Friday

Workers will be stripping off striping on Glendale Boulevard, where northwest traffic has been limited.

In Silver Lake, delays on Rowena Avenue, Glendale Boulevard and the surrounding streets have been aggravating commuters--and residents.

moving and repairing water pipes under city streets has tied up traffic, closing lanes and putting flagmen to work.

Starting Friday, another phase begins and you'll hear it. Workers will be out early sandblasting and repainting lines along Glendale Boulevard, where full-time northwest traffic has been limited.

Workers will use a so-called "wet sandblasting" technique. Nonetheless, residents are warned to keep their windows closed to ward off noise and dust.

When they're done, two lanes along Glendale will return and the Glendale-Lakewood-Rowena intersection will reopen.

That's the good news.

If you're driving through the area,  traffic will still creep, but the action (or lack thereof) will shift down Glendale Boulevard, where lane closures are again part of the plan.  Rowena too will remain a single lane.

The LADWP says this next phase could last as long as four months.

The department encourages citizens to refer to the project website for more info.
