Silver Lake Picture Show Is A Smash

Some have complained that the so-called "Polka Dot Plaza" at Maltman Avenue and Sunset Boulevard does not get the traffic it should.

Well, the haters should have stopped by Wednesday night.

Film fans packed the plaza for the first night of the Silver Lake Picture Show.

The bi-weekly series kicked off with some very short films from 5secondfilms.com and a screening of Who Framed Roger Rabbit?

Fittingly, the Robert Zemekis-directed feature has some nice shots of the Hyperion Bridge connecting Silver Lake and Atwater, one of which we captured in the above gallery.

Downtown's Starlight Cinemas provided the screen and sound, both of which worked fine.

The crowd was young, well-behaved and, as you might expect, looking very sharp.

Organizer Nicholas Robbins invited locals to go over to nearby restaurant for beer and drink specials--and a little "hookah" afterwards.

Some did and were surprised to discover Naya's lovely back patio.

Local business owners also showed up to show their support, including Barbara James of .

L.A. Confidential is the next stop in the series, on July 25.

Come early with a picnic and blankets or a chair. This will only get more popular.
