Man Tries to Rob Rental Car Lot, But They Don't Have Any Cash to Give Him

A would-be armed robber left an Elk Grove business empty-handed Tuesday, police say.

A man tried to rob an Elk Grove rental car lot at gunpoint Tuesday, but they didn't have any cash to give him, according to police.

The suspect entered the Avis at 8696 Elk Grove Blvd. around 1 p.m. armed with a handgun, a police crime log states.

"[The suspect]Β demanded that the employee give him money from the business," the crime log states. "[The suspect]Β fled the store after being told that that there wasn't any U.S. currency at the business."

The man ran out the back door and fled on foot, police say.

Elk Grove Police Department spokesman Officer Chris Trim said officers and K9 unitsΒ searched for the suspect but weren't able to find him. They're checking nearby businesses forΒ surveillanceΒ video, he said.

The suspect was described as a black male in his 20s, standing 5-foot-8 and weighing 140 pounds, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and a backpack.
