Mayor Gary Davis Will Read to Toddlers at Library Wednesday

His visit will promote the Sacramento Public Library's summer reading program, "Reading Is So Delicious."

Elk Grove Mayor Gary Davis will make a stop at the Elk Grove Library this week to do a little light reading.

Davis will read during the library's regular Wednesday morning Toddler Storytime, the library said in a press release.

β€œAs someone who has been active in education for my entire careerβ€”and as the father of three young childrenβ€”I know how important literacy skills are,” the press release quotedΒ Davis as saying. β€œIn Elk Grove, our kids have access to not just one but two great public libraries. I want to encourage both kids and adults to visit our libraries on a regular basis and take advantage of the thousands of books and numerous programs and services at our fingertips.”

Davis' visit will promote "Reading Is So Delicious," the library's summer reading program. The library says kids "can lose up toΒ two months of the reading skills they gained during the year" if they don't read during the summer; it hopes to sign up 30,000 kids to read 100,000 books this summer.

Davis will read at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Elk Grove Library, 8900 Elk Grove Blvd. That branch holds Toddler Storytime every Wednesday, a Baby Storytime at noon every Tuesday, and a Preschool Storytime at 11 a.m. every Thursday.

The Franklin Library, 10055 Franklin High Rd., holds Toddler Storytime 10 a.m. Wednesdays, and a Preschool Storytime at 10 a.m. Tuesdays.
