Needy Kids Will Go on Clothing Shopping Spree Saturday
Elk Grove Unified students will get free school clothes and other supplies Saturday.

Needy Elk Grove kids will get $125 in free clothes, backpacks and school supplies this weekend at a local department store.
More than 100 students will participate in the annual event, dubbed Childspree, at the Elk Grove Boulevard Kohl's Saturday morning.
Before entering the store, the kids will have a pancake breakfast in the parking lot and can get free haircuts. Each student will get a free backpack full of supplies, and a free bicycle helmet.
“The Childspree is a collaborative event where many community members come together to address the needs of children in our district,” a press release quoted Elk Grove Unified School District Healthy Start Coordinator Sandy Waite as saying. “The students remember this day for the rest of their lives.”

More than 100 Elk Grove Unified students will enjoy a $125 back-to-school shopping spree onSaturday, July 27, 2013 to shop for back to school clothing at the Elk Grove Kohl’s store. Childspree is an event for select students who are in need of school clothes, backpacks and school supplies. The students range from kindergarten through 5th grade.

Students will shop with chaperones from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. at the Kohl’s store located at 9650 Bruceville Road. Kohl’s will provide each student with a 15 percent discount. Students participating in the event are identified through Healthy Start, Project Act and Foster Youth Services.
The day will include a pancake breakfast in the parking lot, prepared and served by Elk Grove Lions Club and their members. Great Clips will offer free haircuts in the parking lot to the students. Each student will receive a backpack filled with school supplies, compliments of Soroptimist International of Elk Grove. The Children’s Safety Coalition will provide free booster seats and fire alarm batteries to families participating in this event. In addition, the University of California, Davis will provide free bicycle helmets to the students and Elk Grove Unified Healthy Start Program will provide oral dental supplies.

Event Vendors include: Elk Grove Optimist, Kohl’s, Elk Grove Lions Club, UC Davis hospitals, California Highway Patrol, Elk Grove Police Department, Soroptimist International of Elk Grove, Cosumnes CSD Fire Department, Paula Maita, Great Clips, Trader Joe’s, Double R DJ Entertainment, Elk Grove Lions Vision Van, Pins and Strikes, Safe Kids Coalition, Project ACT and Molina Health Care Systems.
Event Sponsors include: Elk Grove Optimist, Sacramento Optimist Breakfast Club, Sutterville Heights Optimist Club, Kohl’s, Lyon’s Real Estate, Elk Grove Rotary, Laguna Sunrise Rotary, Gil Moore Family Foundation, Gene Murray, Elk Grove Lions Club, St. Mary’s Episcopal Church and many anonymous sponsors in the community.
Volunteers will represent the following organizations: Elk Grove Unified School District, Elk Grove Optimists, Soroptimists of Elk Grove, Elk Grove Rotary, Elk Grove Lions, Department of Human Assistance and various members of the Elk Grove Community.
