That 'Fire' on Top of the Suburban Propane Tanks Thursday Night is Normal
Suburban Propane plans to use its "flare" Thursday night.

If you see flames atop the giant propane tanks in the southern part of Elk Grove Thursday night, don't be alarmed.
The Cosumnes Fire Department says Suburban Propane, which has massive storage tanks at 10455 East Stockton Blvd., plans to use its "flare" Thursday night.
"The flare is aΒ controlled burn of excess propane that is often visible from off-site locationsΒ especially in twilight or darkness," the department said in a press release.
It's a routine action, but doesn't happen very often. The fire department hopes to reduce the number ofΒ unnecessaryΒ calls about the flare by warning the public in advance.
