Wanted Man Allegedly Ditches Car After Hit-And-Run, Arrested Hiding in Closet

Rodrigo Corona Garcia, 36, was arrested Thursday in Elk Grove.

Police say a man with a warrant out for his arrest was involved in a hit-and-run accident Thursday night, then ditched the car he was driving and hid in a closet.

The man, 36-year-old Rodrigo Corona Garcia, was wanted on felonyΒ charges of assault with a deadly weapon. Police say he was involved in an accident near Bond and Waterman roads, but fled the scene without exchanging information with the other driver.

Police found the car abandoned nearby, according to a department crime log.Β

Later in the evening, the car was reported stolen, police say. When officers went to the home of the owner, they found Garcia–who is not the owner of the car–hiding in a closet, according to the crime log.

"Officers determined that [Garcia]Β was the driver of the vehicle involved in the hit and run," the crime log states. "A records check revealed that [Garcia] had an activeΒ felony warrant out for his arrest. [Garcia] was arrested then transported to the main jail."

Garcia is currently being held without bail on the earlier warrant, misdemeanorΒ hit-and-run chargesΒ and a hold from the U.S. Border Patrol.
