What To Do For Memorial Day Weekend 2024 In Elk Grove

Falling on the last Monday of May each year, Memorial Day honors those who lost their lives while serving in the military. It's a federal holiday that many people get off from work, resulting in a three-day weekend.

This year, Memorial Day falls on May 27, and for many, this holiday weekend marks the unofficial start of summer. We've rounded up some things to do Memorial Day Weekend in and around Elk Grove. Please note: We recommend calling ahead to confirm the hours and access before you head out the door.

Sacramento County Fair

When: Thursday, May 23-Sunday, May 26 - 10:00 a.m.-10:00 p.m.; Monday, May 27 - 10:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m.
Where: 1600 Exposition Blvd., Sacramento, CA 95815
What: The Sacramento County Fair, established in 1937, focuses on educating the community and youth in agriculture, business and technology in a fun and safe environment. Held during Memorial Day weekend, the fair offers affordable family-friendly activities, including traditional county fair competitions, agriculture displays, hands-on activities, a carnival, specialty food and festival-style entertainment, with all concerts included in fair admission.

Elk Grove Farmers’ Market

When: Saturday, May 25 - 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
Where: 8245 Laguna Blvd., Elk Grove, CA 95758
What: Head over to the Elk Grove Farmer’s Market to check out the fruits and vegetables currently in season like kale, broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, greens and cabbage, as well as citrus fruits like grapefruit, lemons, oranges and pomelos. Memorial Day Ceremony & Walk For Veterans

When: Monday, May 27 - 9:30 a.m.–12:00 p.m.
Where: Masonic Cemetery, 8540 Elk Grove Blvd., Elk Grove, CA 95624
What: This Memorial Day Ceremony is a tribute to fallen American military personnel, with a special salute to Vietnam Conflict service men and women. The ceremony includes the Pledge of Allegiance, speeches, introductions of commanders, posting of colors, folding of the flag and a playing of Taps. The ceremony is followed by a walk for veterans to the park, where a picnic featuring hot dogs, chips and water is offered to all participants.

East Lawn Memorial Day Ceremony

When: Monday, May 27 - 10:00 a.m.
Where: East Lawn, 9189 East Stockton Blvd., Elk Grove, CA 95624
What: Honor the brave individuals who sacrificed their lives while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces at East Lawn on Memorial Day at 10:00 a.m. The event includes complimentary refreshments, military speakers and a presentation of colors by the Boy Scouts of America.
