11-Foot Waves, Flooding Possible In Encinitas
Dangerous surf conditions are expected to return to the San Diego County coastline, prompting high surf and coastal flood advisories.
ENCINITAS, CA — Dangerous surf conditions are expected to return to the San Diego County coastline, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a high surf advisory for the coastal areas.
A high surf advisory will be in effect from 8 p.m. Wednesday to 6 p.m. Thursday for the county's coastal areas, including Encinitas. The advisory was coupled with a coastal flood advisory that will be in effect from 4 a.m. to noon Thursday.
Large breaking waves of 5 to 7 feet are expected, with occasional sets of 8 to 11 feet, according to the NWS.

A high tide of 6.7 feet is expected to hit the coast around 8:10 a.m. Thursday, according to the NWS. The highest surf conditions are predicted in southern San Diego County.
Forecasters warned of dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and localized beach erosion.

"Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions," the NWS said in a statement.
Weather officials said flooding is possible in parking lots, parks and roads. Isolated road closures are expected.
"If travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may be closed," the NWS said. "Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Take the necessary actions to protect flood-prone property."
