Another Heat Wave Prompts Heat Advisory For Encinitas

Officials told people to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned rooms, stay out of the sun, and check on relatives and neighbors.

ENCINITAS, CA — An excessive heat warning and a heat advisory are in effect for parts of San Diego County as another heat wave hits the region.

An excessive heat warning is in effect until 11 p.m. Tuesday for the county deserts. Dangerously hot conditions are expected with temperatures up to 110 degrees in the desert areas, according to the National Weather Service.

A heat advisory is in effect until 8 p.m. Wednesday for the county coastal areas and valleys, including Encinitas. Temperatures up to 90 degrees are expected in the coastal areas, while temperatures are predicted up to 104 degrees in the valleys, according to the NWS.

Hot weather can increase the potential for heat-related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities.

Forecasters advised people to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned rooms, stay out of the sun, and check on relatives and neighbors. Weather officials also reminded residents that young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles.

"Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke," the NWS advised. "Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 911."
