Cardiff Seaside Market Makes $20k Donation to Improve Beach Entry

Cardiff Seaside Market made a $20,000 donation to help rebuild a stairway that leads to the San Elijo State Beach in Cardiff-by-the-Sea. The donation is the largest made to Friends of Cardiff & Carlsbad State Beaches, founder and vice president Bill Mahoney announced Monday.

The contribution doubled the donations the group has gotten in recent months to $40,000. Local stairs leading to beaches were built in the 1960s and have not been upgraded since, Mahoney told the U-T San Diego this year. Restorations will cost about $25,000 for one staircase, he added.

The group held its Christmas in July event on Saturday, where some 2,000 attended and raised more than $7,000, he added.
