Encinitas Mayor, Other Officials Honor 5 'Rising Star' Students

The Rising Star program​ is a monthly breakfast that honors seniors from high schools in the San Dieguito Union High School District.

ENCINITAS, CA — Encinitas Mayor Tony Kranz and other local officials honored five Encinitas students during the Encinitas Chamber of Commerce's final Rising Star of the Month event of the school year.

The Rising Star program is a monthly breakfast that honors seniors from high schools in the San Dieguito Union High School District. The students have "shown a promise and passion for community leadership and involvement, and embody outstanding qualities such as integrity, a commitment to their education, and the ability to overcome adversity," according to the Encinitas Chamber of Commerce.

This month's event recognized Angela Aguirre from Canyon Crest Academy, Jina Moon from La Costa Canyon High School, Blake Harris from San Dieguito High School Academy, Kaede Ward from Sunset High School, and Marley Wexler from Torrey Pines High School.

The Encinitas Chamber of Commerce partnered with MiraCosta College's San Elijo campus this school year to host and sponsor the monthly breakfasts. The students were recognized April 10 and joined by their families, as well as school and government officials, including Kranz and Councilmember Joy Lyndes.

This year's program has honored 32 high school seniors. All Rising Star students will have the opportunity to apply for a scholarship that will be awarded during the Encinitas Chamber of Commerce's annual Salute to Education event on May 23.
