Who's News: 12/19/25 (thecoastnews.com) — Escondido residents can celebrate a big win for local schools: Escondido Union High School District earned a 2025 Golden Bell Award for professional learning, after its Arc of Learning and Studio Cycle programs boosted English and math proficiency. The roundup also highlights regional student honors, community awards, a new Alzheimer’s imaging center in San Marcos, and other North County achievements.
   

2. Basketball Recap: Anaya Mcglory Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat El Camino (maxpreps.com) — Escondido High’s girls basketball team edged El Camino 45-39 behind a standout 22-point, six-rebound night from Anaya McGlory, with strong support from teammates like Naomi Gutierrez. The Cougars have now won two straight, improving to 3-1, and quickly followed up with another victory over San Dieguito Academy as their promising season gains momentum.
   

3. More 'desirable breeds' came though San Diego Humane Society's doors in 2025 (kpbs.org) — If you’re thinking about adopting a dog, the San Diego Humane Society’s Escondido campus is now one of several locations seeing a big influx of popular breeds, from French bulldogs to pugs. The shelter currently has hundreds of dogs available and offers walk‑in adoptions plus a 14‑day Adoption Trial Program, letting Escondido residents “test run” a pet at home before committing.
   

4. Wait lists for rental aid are getting so long that some cities may close theirs down (mercedsunstar.com) — Regional housing voucher waitlists are so overwhelmed that San Diego and Oceanside may soon stop accepting new applicants, and Escondido leaders are highlighted for recently mending ties between the city and local nonprofits. Speakers at a homelessness conference warned that federal funding shifts and rising rents are forcing agencies to raise tenant rent shares or risk cutting families from assistance.
