3-Year-Old Child Struck, Killed By Vehicle
Both police and firefighters performed lifesaving measures, but the child died at the scene.

FREMONT, CA — A three-year-old child was struck by a vehicle and killed in Fremont, according to the Fremont Police Department.
The collision happened at approximately 11:45 a.m. Monday, as the driver was pulling out of a parking space at Dunsmuir Common and Colleen Terrace.
Fremont Police Officers began performing life-saving measures on the injured child when they arrived, following multiple 911 calls. Fremont Fire Department personnel took over when they arrived a short time later. Unfortunately, the child died at the scene.

"As we mourn this tragic incident with our community, please respect the family's privacy during this incredibly difficult time," the police department said in a written statement. "We would also like to remind drivers to always stay vigilant—on the road, in a driveway, or a parking lot. Always scan for pedestrians, bicyclists, motorcyclists, and anything in motion around you."
The Fremont Police Department Traffic Investigations Unit is probing the cause of the crash. "The preliminary investigation indicates an adult driver was driving their vehicle forward from a parking stall when a child unexpectedly moved in front of the vehicle," the police statement continued. "The front left side of the vehicle then struck the child. The driver stopped the vehicle immediately."

The driver continues to cooperate with investigators. Drug and alcohol impairment does not appear to be a factor.

This was Fremont's eleventh fatal traffic collision of 2024. Six of the deaths occurred on Fremont roadways, three were on state routes, and two on private property.
