FREMONT, CA — Five new officers have joined the Fremont Police Department following graduation last Thursday from the Alameda County Sheriff's Office Police Academy.

The new officers are Shane Degenstein, Harjit Singh, Brandon Medina-Palafox, Joseph Padilla, and Raymond Hensley. They will undergo rigorous field training before being sent solo into policing situations.

The Fremont Police Department is understaffed, and recently implemented a $100,000 signing bonus for up to 10 newly hired Lateral Police Officers. At the time, Fremont Police Chief Sean Washington said, "Recruiting and retaining skilled officers is critical to our success."
