Multiple shots were fired but no one was struck, according to Bosques.
The male and female residents managed to flee from the home with two children and alert authorities.
The woman said the suspect was armed with an assault rifle and may have been inside the home at the time of the call.
Fremont police officers, along with a SWAT unit and Newark police, surrounded the home and set up a perimeter, blocking off several roads in the area.
Officers were unable to locate the suspect after searching the area for several hours. However, an assault rifle was found during the search, police said.
It is possible the suspect could have fled through the back of the home before officers arrived, Bosques said.
The suspect is described as a 30-year-old Hispanic male adult with a bushy long ponytail and goatee with a skinny build. He has tattoos above both eyebrows and was last seen wearing a zip-up grey jacket, grey t-shirt and blue pants.
As of 9:45 p.m., roads were starting to open, though police expect to be in the area for sometime, Bosques said.
