Bids For City Council Seats In Fremont Lead To Tight Races

Less than 100 votes separate candidates in two out of three seats up for grabs.

FREMONT, CA — Three city council seats were up for grabs in the city of Fremont's municipal election held Nov. 8, 2022, and candidates on the ballot are still waiting for the final vote tallies to see if they secure a spot on that city’s dais.

In the race for District 2, Desrie Campbell, Robert Daulton and Keith Parker are all looking to secure the seat which is being vacated by current Council Member Rick Jones.

According to the most recent numbers released by AC Vote, Alameda County's vote counting and reporting agency, Campbell leads by a narrow margin of only 87 votes. Campbell currently has 2,011 votes or 39.95 percent. Daulton is a close second with 1,924 votes or 38.22 percent with Parker at 1,099 or 21.83 percent of the vote.

In the race for District 3 Incumbent Council Member Jenny Kassan has secured 1,646 votes (42.63 percent) while challenger Kathy Kimberlin trails by only 69 votes with 1,578 (40.87 percent). Arif Mohamed currently sits in third with 637 votes (16.50 percent).

District 4 Incumbent Yang Shao appears to be poised for another term with 2,726 votes (55.75 percent) over challenger Bryce Beckel with 2,164 (44.25 percent).

AC vote has been posting “unofficial results” since the election, so the count as reported has not been finalized with votes still being counted. The next update is expected Friday, Nov. 18.
