Celebrate Women's Equality Day: Bay Area Events

Several Women's Equality Day events are happening in the Bay Area.

FREMONT, CA — It's National Women's Equality Day, an annual honoring of the historic day in 1920, when the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was passed, granting women the right to vote.

Here are some local women-centering events to check out today:

In Fremont, head to the “Herstory Exhibit: The Legal History of Chinese American Women,” currently on-view at the Fremont Main Library.

“From the landmark 1874 Supreme Court case involving Chinese women to today’s generation of judges and elected officials, this exhibit, curated by Dr. Chang Chen, celebrates the everyday individuals who stood up for their rights and, in doing so, helped redefine the American story,” library staff shared.

The library’s address is 2400 Stevenson Blvd., Fremont. Tuesday library hours are 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. For more information about library hours, go here.

In Livermore, a free "Women Warriors for Wildlife" naturalist program is scheduled from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Nature Center, located at the Wetmore entrance of Sycamore Grove Park.

"Celebrate Women’s Equality Day with Naturalist Candace as she highlights women who positively impacted human relationship with nature (both past and present)," said the Livermore Area Recreation and Park District staff.

Sycamore Grove Park's address is 1051 Wetmore Rd., Livermore.

There's also a virtual "Women’s Equality Day Career Fair" happening this afternoon, as shared by Cal State East Bay's Career Empowerment Center. It takes place from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. today. To register for this online event, go here.

Other ways to honor Women's Equality Day today and throughout the week include heading to your local library to explore women's history books, supporting local women-owned businesses and going to a Bay Area women's sports event, such as the Golden State Valkyries' game against the Washington Mystics on Saturday at the Chase Center.
