Deadline To Apply To Be Fremont's Next Police Chief Quickly Approaching

The city's last police chief retired over the summer but has continued working at the department in an interim role.

FREMONT, CA — Time is ticking to apply to be the next police chief in Fremont.

The deadline to apply for the role is just before midnight on Sunday, Jan. 4, according to Fremont city officials.

"The department is seeking a community-centered leader known for their impactful accomplishments, emotional intelligence, and ability to build trust across the department and community," city officials said in a statement on social media.

The Fremont Police Department said the ideal candidate is "leads with confidence" and "delivers equitable service to diverse communities."

The city's last police chief, Sean Washington, retired in August but has continued serving in an interim role at the department.

Washington's retirement came at a challenging time for the city, which at the time experienced a series of high-profile violent crimes, including the first two homicides of the year and a smash-and-grab burglary in which a vehicle slammed through a storefront.
