From the City of Fremont:
Historically, Fremont’s residential recycling program has been among the best in the State at providing quality recyclables with very little contamination. However lately, the trend has not been good. After a recent audit, the City observed an unusually high percentage (19%) of non-recyclable items (i.e., garbage, clothes, shoes, garden hoses, and Styrofoam) in the residential recycling program. This has many negative consequences, from making it more difficult to market good recyclables, to increasing the processing costs associated with the residential collection program.
The City needs your help to get your recycling program back on the right track. Recycling helps create local jobs and can be more cost effective than trash collection. Recycling also reduces the need for new landfills, saves energy, supplies valuable raw materials to industry, and adds significantly to the U.S. economy.
Please recycle responsibly at home. Garbage does not belong in the recycling or compost bins. Refer to the pictured “How To” recycling and compost guide to keep these items properly separated.
