Council to Select Vice Mayor, Review Mission Hills Private Swim and Tennis Club Plan
Fremont City Council meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday

Changes are coming to the Fremont City Council and a step toward that new direction will be made Tuesday.
Council members are scheduled to select a new vice mayor for the 2013 year. According to city documents, the council proceeds with an annual appointment of a vice mayor.
The council meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at city council chambers, 3300 Capitol Ave.

The selection is “based on the councilmember who received the highest number of votes during the previous general municipal election,” according to a staff report.
It’s expected that Bill Harrison will be appointed as vice mayor until results from the November 2012 election are certified, which indicate that Harrison is Fremont’s mayor-elect, according to city documents. Once those results are certified, current Vice Mayor Anu Natarajan will be recommended for the appointment, the staff report states.

A public hearing of an appeal of the city’s planning commission’s consideration of a planned district to build a private swim and tennis club in Mission Hills off of East Las Palmas and Almeria avenues will be held.
City documents note that in May the property owner submitted plans to the city to develop 18 homes in the area but that during a 45-day public review, the applicant revised the plan for a new private swim and tennis club.
The Planning Commission held a public hearing and certified the project’s Final Environmental Impact Report but did not agree on whether it should recommend the project to the city council, according to the agenda. In November, the applicant appealed the planning commission’s failure to make a recommendation, which is reason for it being forwarded to the city council on Tuesday.
City Council will hold the public hearing at its Tuesday meeting and will have the option to deny the application, approve it as proposed or approve the application with revisions.
Also at the meeting, a badge pinning ceremony for recently appointed Fire Chief Geoff LaTendresse will be held.
