Crime Log: Robbers Nab Necklaces; Drunken Drivers Crash Into House, Fire Hydrant, Vehicles

Brief reports on crimes that occurred in Fremont Oct. 8-14.

The following is a summary of significant crime and incidents reported in Fremont between Oct. 8 and Oct. 14 as released by the Fremont Police Department.  

MONDAY, OCT. 8

Drunken Driver Crashes, Causes Gas Leak

Police responded to the 36000 block of Laredo Drive after a man driving a vehicle crashed into a home and fled. Witnesses reported a natural gas leak, which Fremont firefighters and PG&E worked to fix. Officers were able to find the driver in a house nearby and he was arrested on suspicion of a hit and run and driving under the influence.

A 22-year-old woman crashed into a city vehicle being driven by a Fremont Police Department employee in the area of Stevenson Boulevard and Albany Common. The woman, who is a Pebble Beach resident, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Toddler Found Wandering Around Busy Intersection

A passer-by called police after he found a 3-year-old child running eastbound at the intersection of Paseo Padre Parkway and Mowry Avenue. Police said the man said he was approaching the intersection and immediately “saw a small figure running,” so he stopped his vehicle and grabbed the child from the middle of the intersection. The child was returned home and the incident remains under investigation.

TUESDAY, OCT. 9

Drunken Driver Crashes Into Fire Hydrant

Police arrested a 26-year-old Fremont man after he crashed his vehicle into a fire hydrant on Kato Road. Authorities said the man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Copper Wire Found Stripped Near Motel 6

Police responded to Motel 6 after someone called police to report that power near the express lanes on southbound Interstate 680 were affected. Authorities responded and a K-9 search was conducted in the area. Police found that copper wire was pulled from two underground lines but the suspect(s) weren’t able to take the material. The investigation is ongoing.

WEDNESDAY, OCT. 10

Burglary Suspect From Southern California Found

Police arrested a 24-year-old Norwalk man after they located a vehicle wanted for a burglary in Southern California. Authorities said the man was arrested for an outstanding burglary warrant.

Man Attempts to Steal Bag Full of Jeans

A 40-year-old Hayward man was arrested after police were called to Kohl’s at Pacific Commons Shopping Center. Officers were called after store employees recognized a man in the store who is known to grab items and flee. Police said the man loaded several pair of jeans inside of a bag, walked out the door and tried to escape. Police were able to stop the vehicle and the man was arrested on suspicion of commercial burglary and possession of drugs.

THURSDAY, OCT. 11

Arrested Man Breaks Patrol Car Window

A man who was arrested for a battery on Wolfe Court was arrested again after he kicked and damaged the rear window of a patrol car while he was handcuffed. Police said the man was then put in a wrap and transported to Santa Rita and booked on suspicion of battery and vandalism.

FRIDAY, OCT. 12

Two Men Stabbed After Apartment Brawl

A man was arrested after two men were stabbed at an apartment complex on the 39800 block of Fremont Boulevard just after midnight, police said. According to Fremont police, an argument erupted at an apartment at Pathfinder Village among three men, two of whom did not live in the home. Police said the renter then stabbed two men, ages 20 and 24, who sustained non-life threatening injuries. Read the full report here.

Woman Robbed of Gold Necklace at Deep Creek

Police are looking for two teenage suspects who robbed a woman of the gold necklace she was wearing as she and her husband were walking on Deep Creek Road. Authorities said the two suspects ran from behind the couple as they were walking and yanked the gold chain off of the woman’s neck. Police weren’t able to find the suspects but they were described as two black males approximately 5-foot-6 tall of skinny build.

Drug Dealer Tasered After Refusing to Cooperate with Police

Officers were called to investigate a drug deal at Wendy’s. The detectives on scene located the suspect but the man fought with officers as they tried to arrest him. Police eventually tasered the man who was then arrested on suspicion of possession of cocaine for sales.

Brawl Leads to Five Arrests

Police were called to the area of Trade Wind Lane and Banyan Tree Road near Kennedy High School after someone reported that a fight among three men was in progress. Arriving officers arrested two people on suspicion of driving under the influence and also arrested three for public drunkenness.

SATURDAY, OCT. 13

A Second Robbery on Deep Creek

A woman was knocked down and then robbed of her necklace in the area of Paseo Padre Parkway and Deep Creek Road. Police said the suspect was described as a 5-foot-5 tall black male between the ages of 18 and 20 of average build. He was last seen fleeing the area in a red vehicle. Police believe the suspect could be similar to the suspect in Friday’s Deep Creek Road robbery.

Man Attacked After Leaving Bar

Police were called to Lowe’s in Pacific Commons after a 9-1-1 call came in from a cell phone. Officers said a man who was at Saddlerack was beat after leaving the bar at an unknown location. No witnesses were found and the victim was too intoxicated to give more information. He was transported to a local hospital and treated for moderate injures to his face.

SUNDAY, OCT. 14

High School’s Wrestling Gym Damaged

Police assisted the Fremont Police Department in a suspicious fire investigation. Authorities said, “the wrestling gym at Mission-San Jose High School was involved and damaged.” The investigation is ongoing.

Attempted Necklace Robbery at Nordvik Park

A suspect similar to the Deep Creek Road robberies on Friday and Saturday attempted to steal a gold necklace from a victim at Nordvik Park off Paseo Padre Parkway. Police say the investigation is ongoing and that the suspect was wearing light red pants.

Mail Thief Sought

Police are searching for a man who witnesses say stole mail from the 3200 block of Beldon Terrance by using “some type of key.” The suspect is described as a Hispanic male between the ages of 30 and 40 who fled in a silver vehicle whose license plate includes “5W.”
