Crime Log: Shots Fired on Fremont Boulevard; Numerous Home Burglaries

The following is a summary of significant crime and incidents reported in Fremont between Feb. 15 and Feb. 20 as released by the Fremont Police Department. 

FRIDAY, FEB. 15

Women threaten to shoot security guards at Rite Aid

Two women threatened to shoot security officers at the Rite Aide on Mowry Avenue after being confronted for stealing from the store. The women then fled in a white Aerostar minivan. The case is being investigated as a robbery.

Armed robbery at 00 Liquors

A black male wearing a white face mask and gloves brandished a silver handgun at a clerk at 00 Liquors. The suspect took an undisclosed amount of cash and fled on foot east on Darwin Drive.

Man battered near Sundale Drive

A man reported being assaulted by three males in the area of Sundale Drive and Griffith Avenue. He was taken to the hospital for his injuries. Detailed descriptions of the suspects were not given.

SATURDAY, FEB. 16

Shots fired near Fremont Boulevard and Country Drive

Residents in the area of Fremont Boulevard and Country Drive reported multiple shots being fired in the area. A caller reported that three or four rounds were fired and that a group of males dressed in blue clothing fled into the Rancho Luna Apartments. Responding officers were unable to locate any suspects or victims. The only description was that a 1998 to 2002 white Mitsubishi Galant was involved in the shooting.

One arrested after large fight

Officers responded to the area of Lake Arrowhead Avenue and Alvarado Boulevard where a group of about 14 adults and juveniles were reportedly fighting. Officers located a group of drunk friends. One of them, an adult female, was arrested on suspicion of stealing a bottle of liquor.

SUNDAY, FEB. 17

Juvenile arrested with deadly weapon

A juvenile boy was arrested on suspicion of possessing a deadly weapon on the 38000 block of Bonnie Way.

Man on psychiatric hold barricades himself in room

A man who was brought in to the police station by BART PD on a psychiatric hold broke free of his restraints in a secured room, pushed a bed against the door and began making threats. Members of the Fremont Fire Department assisted in calming the man down and convinced him to un-barricade the door.

MONDAY, FEB. 18

Suspicious packages found at business

A facility manager at a business on the 6700 block of Kaiser Driver reported suspicious packages in front of one of the buildings at about 5 a.m. The packages were wrapped in duct tape and set next to a light pole in the campus’ courtyard. People were evacuated from the building and the Alameda County Bomb Squad was brought in. The packages were eventually determined to be safe.

Police called to same Motel 6 room three times

Officers responded to Motel 6 North, located at 34047 Fremont Blvd., to handle a family disturbance at one of their rooms. Shortly after, police were called to the same room again and ended up arresting a 23-year-old man on suspicion of being drunk in public. Two hours later, police were again called to the room. A 36-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of being drunk in public and for trying to kick open the door of the patrol car.

TUESDAY, FEB. 19

Two arrested after trying to cash forged checks

Police arrested a man and a woman who tried to cash forged checks at the Citibank at the Fremont Plaza Shopping Center. When officers arrived, the suspects fled on foot. Officers chased the female suspect down as she ran toward Elephant Bar. The male was tracked down on Beacon Avenue just east of Fremont Boulevard. Both the 51-year-old woman and the 37-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of fraud related charges.

Police searching for two home burglary suspects

Homeowners on the 4400 block of Calypso Terrace came home at around 4:35 p.m. and found a burglar standing on the second floor of their home. The homeowners ran to a neighbor’s house and called police. While on the phone with police, they watched the suspects run and jump into a waiting car. One suspect jumped into the driver’s seat, the other, who was carrying either a pillow case or some kind of bag, jumped into the passenger seat. The car headed west on Calypso Terrace and then east on Ozark River Way. The suspects may be connected to another burglary that occurred on Riverbend Terrace between 2 and 2:40 p.m.

The suspects were both described as black men standing about 6 feet tall and weighing about 200 pounds. The first was wearing a hoodie, and the second was wearing a baseball hat. They were seen driving an early 2000s blue or black Audi A6.

Residential burglaries:

Surveillance at a home on the 3800 block of Riverbend Terrace shows footage of two suspects entering the backyard at about 2 p.m. One enters the home through a second floor bedroom window and spends 20 minutes inside. Money was taken from the home. One of the suspects fit the description of a suspect in the Calypso Terrace burglary (above).

A silver 2006 BMW 325i, jewelry and a TV were stolen from a home on the 3300 block of Lacock Place. The vehicle’s license plate is 6GGA126.

A home on the 34000 block of Eucalyptus Terrace was broken into between 2 and 5 p.m. A window was removed and the home was ransacked. Jewelry was stolen.

A home on Country Drive was also ransacked.

WEDNESDAY, FEB. 20

Residential burglaries:

A resident on the 37000 block Tacchella Way reported an in-progress burglary at his neighbor’s house. The neighbor approached the suspect, who fled on foot. The suspect was unsuccessful in breaking in. He was described as a black male between 18 and 20 years old with a medium build, short hair and wearing a dark grey jogging suit.

An elderly woman reported an unknown man in her home on the 100 block of Black Mountain Circle at about 12:20 p.m. Officers arrived and established a perimeter. The woman was safely evacuated from the home but the suspect was not located. Police did confirm that an attempted burglary did occur. The suspect was described as a black male about 20 to 30 years old and standing 5-foot-11 with a skinny build.

Cash and jewelry were stolen from a home on the 1700 block of Ponca Ct. An unknown person knocked on the door of the home and convinced the homeowner to come outside and talk. While they spoke, another suspect burglarized the home.

A home was broken into on the 38800 block of Godfrey Place during the day. Suspects entered through a window and stole jewelry, electronics and other items from the home.

Unknown suspects forced their way through a rear door into a home on the 5300 block of Curtis Street. A TV, DVDs, electronics, art and other items were stolen.

During the day, unknown suspects stole jewelry and a tablet from a home on the 48400 block of Flagstaff Place. The suspects forced their way through a rear door.
