FREMONT, CA — At least one person died in a multiple-vehicle crash on southbound Interstate Highway 680 in Fremont Thursday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash was reported at 7:05 a.m. just north of the Mission Boulevard South off-ramp.

At almost noon, traffic is still backed up from Fremont to the Tri-Valley. Highway 84 is also impacted as drivers seek an alternate route.

The crash involved a half-dozen vehicles, including a jackknifed big-rig.

A sig-alert was issued as three southbound lanes between Auto Mall Parkway and the Mission Boulevard off-ramp were blocked.

There is no estimate of when the back-up will clear. An alternate route is recommended.
