FREMONT, CA — Segments of Interstate 680 in Fremont near the Mission San Jose (State Route 238) Overpass will be closed for critical bridge and pavement work, the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announced on Friday.

The closures will affect Interstate 680’s southbound lanes from July 25 at 10 p.m. to July 28 at 5 a.m. and its northbound lanes from August 8 at 10 p.m. to August 11 at 5 a.m.

During these weekend closures, traffic will be detoured via Mission Boulevard/State Route 238 and State Route 84.

Drivers should expect delays and use alternate routes, Caltrans says, also noting that the planned work on Interstate 680 is weather-dependent.

"These 55-hour closures are necessary to safely and efficiently complete key construction activities, including full bridge deck resurfacing and approach slab repairs. This phase of work involves heavy machinery and the resurfacing of the entire bridge deck," stated Caltrans. "This work must be performed without live traffic to ensure worker and motorists safety. Concentrating these operations during weekend closures will help reduce the overall duration and impact of the project."
