
The badge-pinning ceremony for Fremont’s new fire chief has been rescheduled. The ceremony for Fire Chief Geoff LaTendresse will now be held Nov. 20.

On November 20, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. during a regularly scheduled Council Meeting the City of Fremont will formally recognize Fire Chief Geoff LaTendresse. Chief LaTendresse, a 22-year veteran of the Fremont Fire Department, officially accepted the position on October 31, 2012.

City Manager Fred Diaz stated "I have had the privilege to work with Geoff over the past eight years and recognize his outstanding service to the Fremont Fire Department and the City of Fremont."
Chief LaTendresse spent the first five years of his career with the Campbell Fire Department before joining Fremont in 1990. Over time, he worked his way up through the ranks, serving as Firefighter/Paramedic, Captain/Paramedic, Division Chief and Deputy Chief before his recent promotion.

LaTendresse earned a Bachelor's Degree in Health Science from San Diego State and holds professional certificates from the National Fire Academy, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and the California Fire Service Training and Education System. Raised in Fremont, Geoff attended Vallejo Mills and Gomes elementary schools, Hopkins Junior High and Mission San Jose High. His parents still live in the city's Mission San Jose district.
Chief LaTendresse stated “Fremont is my hometown and I am humbled by the appointment to Fremont Fire Chief."
"I look forward to serving and leading the men and women of the Fremont Fire Department in the years ahead."
