FREMONT, CA — The Fremont Police Department kept busy over July 4, responding to more than 65 service calls and two dozen app requests reporting illegal fireworks. In a news release Thursday, the department said officers confiscated more than 2,300 fireworks and wrote nine citations.

Police officials said most people received warnings, with citations reserved for infractions witnessed directly by officers.

"Fremont Police, Fire, and City staff proactively made contact at numerous locations throughout the city and issued verbal warnings," the department wrote Thursday. "Our priority was to educate and percent injuries. Citations were issued for on-view violations when officers witnessed the ignition of fireworks."
