Fremont Cops Shop for a Cause

Fremont police partnered with other organizations to help 20 less fortunate children shop for their family members this holiday season.

The Fremont Police Department in partnership with Target Stores, Mission San Jose Rotary, the Fremont Police Association and Fremont Bank sponsored the ninth annual “Shop with a Cop” event.

The event was held Wednesday at the Target Store located at the Fremont Hub between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

The “Shop with a Cop” program invites 20 children identified by the City of Fremont's Human Services Department and gives them the opportunity to purchase holiday gifts for their family members at Target.

The children are chauffeured to and from school by a Fremont Police Officer, and once they arrive at Target, are escorted by the Officer and a special helper from the store to purchase their gifts.

Once the child has completed his/her shopping, they will stop at the “wrapping station” where they will join volunteers to wrap their family’s gifts. Following the shopping, participants and volunteers will be provided with lunch courtesy of Outback Restaurant.

Additionally, the Fremont Police Department's Mobile Command Van will be located in the parking lot, and there will be a number of activities for the children to participate in. Police canines, motorcycle officers, and a visit from Santa Claus are a few of the many attractions for the children.

The goal of the program is to provide the children with the most important of holiday gifts - the gift of giving. The children will not be left out – gifts for the children are purchased and wrapped ahead of time.

Generous contributions for this event have been received from Target Stores, Mission San Jose Rotary, Fremont Police Officer Association, Fremont Bank, Outback Restaurant, Starbucks, Half Price Books, Irvington Business Association and employees of the Fremont Police Department.

The Fremont Police Department is honored to have the opportunity to brighten the holiday experience for 20 families in our community.
