Update: Fremont High School Teacher Accused of Touching Student Inappropriately

A Fremont high school teacher was arrested Friday for allegedly touching a student inappropriately, police said. 

According to the Fremont Police Department, detectives followed up on a report from a parent and arrested Kennedy High School teacher David Williams, 66, of Union City, at about 3:55 p.m. 

Williams was arrested on three misdemeanor charges of annoying or molesting a child under the age of 18. 

He was cited and released, and is expected to appear in court Nov. 1.

Fremont Unified School District Superintendent Jim Morris said Williams has been a math teacher at Kennedy High School for 10 years. He also taught a college preparatory program called AVID, or Advancement Via Individual Determination.

He taught students in grades 9 through 12.

Since the incident was reported, additional staff and counselors have been at the school Monday and today "to provide support to students and staff," Morris said.

"Obviously, the safety and protection of kids is our highest priority," he said.

Williams is on leave, but Morris said he cannot be placed on unpaid leave until he has been arraigned.
