Fremont Man Arrested After Allegedly Fleeing Fatal Crash in San Jose
Martin Ramirez Salazar, 49, was allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol on Interstate 680 when the crash occurred.

FREMONT, CA — A Fremont man was arrested after fleeing the scene of a fatal crash in San Jose Sunday night, California Highway Patrol officials said Monday.
Martin Ramirez Salazar, 49, was allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol on northbound I-680, just north of Berryessa Road, when the 2023 GMC Sierra he was driving collided with a 2003 Ford Focus at a high rate of speed.
The collision occurred at 10:50 p.m., CHP Officer N. Hernandez said in an incident report obtained by Patch.com.

According to the incident report, the driver of the Ford, an unidentified 64-year-old man, lost control and crashed into the concrete center divider. The man, whose identity is being held by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner's Office pending notification of next-of-kin, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Salazar lost control of his truck and it traveled across three lanes before leaving the road and stopping in a field, officers said.

CHP officials said officers saw the driver flee but later identified the driver as Salazar and arrested him at his home in Fremont.
