Fremont Man Creates Eco-Friendly Toothbrush

A Fremont man says he and his partner's new toothbrush, with bamboo handles and bristles, can help the environment as well as your teeth.

A Fremont man and his business partner have brought green consciousness to that everyday item, the toothbrush.

Rohit Kumar of Fremont and Rohit Sahdev of Berkeley — they share a first name by coincidence — have founded Brush with Bamboo, a new manufacturing company with offices in San Francisco and Los Angeles.

According to their website, it will take more than 1,000 years for the two billion plastic toothbrushes discarded every year to degrade.

But bamboo is a natural for toothbrushes, they told the San Francisco Business Times in a recent interview. It's antimicrobial, so the brushes don't get moldy, and when discarded, the bamboo handles break down in about six months — unlike seemingly eternal plastic-handled toothbrushes.

Brush With Bamboo products can be purchased online and select retailers throughout the region.
