Fremont PD Awarded $97,000 Grant To Improve Roadway Safety
The grant program will run through September 2023.
FREMONT, CA — Fremont Police Department can increase patrols throughout the city and provide other traffic safety programs, thanks to a $97,000 grant award given to the department from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
“This grant funding allows us to support our ongoing traffic safety efforts in the community,” Fremont Police said in a news release. “Our intent is to stop the most unlawful and dangerous behaviors that put people at risk and create an environment where everyone feels safe traveling.”
The grant funding will help pay for additional programs and resources to help Fremont PD conduct DUI checkpoints and patrols focused on stopping suspected impaired drivers, Fremont PD said.

The grant will also allow the department to conduct “high visibility distracted driving enforcement operations targeting drivers in violation of California’s hands-free cell phone law, enforcement operations focused on the most dangerous driver behaviors including top violations that cause crashes such as speeding, failure to yield, stop sign and/or red-light running, and improper turning or lane changes,” the department said.
According to the news release, funding will also allow the department to give community presentations on traffic safety issues such as distracted driving, impaired driving, speeding, bicycle, and pedestrian safety and help to pay for collaborative enforcement efforts with neighboring agencies.
