Fremont Police Participating in Global Law Enforcement Tweet-a-Thon

The agency is broadcasting calls for service for a 24-hour period.

The Fremont Police Department is one of several Bay Area agencies participating in a global, virtual ride-along today.

Participating law enforcement groups are using Twitter to track a day of patrolling by broadcasting calls for 24 hours as part of a "tweet-a-thon" organized by police media consulting firm LAwS Communications.

Fremont started this morning at 8 a.m. and the community is encouraged to follow them at @FremontPD.

Here's more from the Fremont Police Department:

The Fremont Police Department launched the Twitter account in 2011 in an effort to expand and diversify our outreach efforts. The Department’s Twitter account has sent out more than 2100 tweets and has more than 2500 followers. The global event taking place on Friday will highlight calls for service and give a behind the scenes look into law enforcement agencies all around the world.

Members of the community are encouraged to follow @FremontPD and engage in dialogue with us during the event. To follow the global event, use hashtag #poltwt. A Google map showing police department’s around the world participating, can be found at http://bit.ly/15n3vjP.

During the 24 hour event, you can expect to receive in the range of 300-400 tweets. This figure is based on an average of 250-300 incidents/calls for service generated during a normal 24 hour period in Fremont. Tweets will provide real time information including general call type and call dispositions.

If you aren’t a Twitter user, but would like to follow along, go to http://twitter.com/FremontPD.
