Fremont Police Reported Less Crimes to FBI in 2012

Fremont police reported 306 violent crimes in 2012. That’s 78 less than the 384 reported in 2011.
The number of property crimes, however, increased from 3,952 in 2011 to 4,259 last year. In 2012, Fremont had a violent crime rate of about 1.3 known offenses per 1,000 residents and a property crime rate of 19.4 known offenses per 1,000 people.
The numbers were released this week by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which reported a nationwide increase of violent crimes and a decrease of property crimes after compiling crime data from 18,000 jurisdictions in 50 states.

The FBI's Uniform Crime Reports also included the number of police officers in the nation’s police departments.
Fremont has 0.8 sworn officers for every 1,000 residents, which is a third less than the East Bay average of 1.2 per 1,000 residents. Only Danville, which has the second lowest crime rate of 0.4 offenses per 1,000 residents, has a lower staffing ratio: 0.7 per 1,000 residents.
