Fremont Teachers, School District Reach Tentative Agreement
The new contract will give local teachers their first raise since 2007.

After more than a year of negotiations and a two-month stalemate, the Fremont Unified District Teachers Association and the Fremont Unified School District have reached a tentative contract agreement.
Signed May 15, the tentative agreement will last through June 30, 2015. The contract includes a salary increase — the first since 2007 — and fixed secondary school staffing ratios, among other stipulations.
According to the district and teachers union, the agreement will provide a 4 percent one-time “bonus” for the 2012-13 school year. The Fremont Argus reports that the payment would total $5.7 million.
For the 2013-14 school year, teachers will receive an ongoing 1.5 percent raise, with a possible additional 0.5 salary bump if the district receives additional funds from the state.
The new contract also requires that secondary class sizes be staffed at no more than a 27.5 student to 1 teacher ratio, according to the FUDTA.
Other conditions include modifications to the school calendar, fringe benefits and transfers, among others.
FUDTA members will hold a vote to ratify the agreement before it goes to the Board of Education on June 12.
