Fremont's Minimum Wage To See Increase Beginning July 1

All employers within the geographic boundaries of Fremont will be required to pay employees $16.80 per hour.

FREMONT, CA — Beginning July 1, 2023, Fremont’s minimum wage will increase to $16.80 per hour.

The increase is part of the minimum wage ordinance approved by Fremont City Council Feb. 5, 2019, that increased the local minimum wage to $15 per hour two years earlier than mandated under State law and continues adjusting the minimum wage thereafter based on inflation.

The ordinance incorporated feedback received from residents, the business community, non-profit organizations, and low-wage workers.

"To prevent inflation from eroding its value, the minimum wage will be adjusted by the local consumer price index annually," the city said in the news release.

Employers will be required to pay at least the minimum wage for all hours worked to hourly employees who perform work within the geographic boundaries of the city of Fremont, the city said.

Under the minimum wage ordinance, employers are also required to post the official city of Fremont Wage Bulletin in the top five languages spoken in the city in a conspicuous place at each work site. The Official Bulletins, including translated versions, are available for download on the City’s Minimum Wage webpage.

To avoid a reduction in the valuable services they provide to the community, the minimum wage ordinance exempts employees of non-profit corporations.
