FUSD Maintains High Levels of Performance State DOE Dashboard Shows
FUSD met standards on all five local measures including English language arts and math.

FREMONT, CA — Fremont Unified School District had promising indicators on the 2022 California School Dashboard released Thursday by the California Department of Education, FUSD said in a recent news release.
According to the district, the Dashboard, which had not released information for two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, is an online tool that provides information on school and district progress to present a detailed, contextual interpretation of school success across multiple measures of performance.
Last produced in 2019 with data from the 2017-18 and 2018-19 school years, "the 2022 Dashboard reflects data from the 2021-22 school year and establishes a new baseline against which progress can be measured," FUSD said.

FUSD students returned to the classroom in 2021-22 for in-person learning following distance learning brought on by the pandemic.
“The Dashboard affirms what our local assessments have shown and educators already know: the educational system is still recovering from a variety of challenges related to the COVID-19 pandemic," FUSD Superintendent CJ Cammack said. "Our Dashboard results highlight some of the difficulties, particularly in terms of attendance. Even with this disruption, the excellence of our students and educators is borne out in the results, with our schools performing quite well overall.”

According to the news release, while the 2021-22 Chronic Absentee rate for FUSD (13.1 percent) was substantially lower than those reported across Alameda County (27.8 percent) and the state (30.0 percent), the rate in FUSD nearly tripled from 2019 (4.5 percent).
"The Chronic Absenteeism measure shows how many students were absent for 10 percent or more of the instructional days they were enrolled to attend," the district said.
The Dashboard assesses multiple measures of school success using either state-collected or local, self-reported data. State measures include Academic Performance, Chronic Absenteeism, College/Career Readiness (not reported in 2022, will resume in 2023), English Learner Progress, High School Graduation Rate, and Suspension Rate.
Local measures include Basic Services and Conditions (teacher assignments, safe and clean buildings, instructional materials for all students); Implementation of State Academic Standards; Parent and Family Engagement; School Climate; and Access to a Broad Course of Study.
Notable findings in FUSD’s data include:
- Overall, 77.5 percent of FUSD students met or exceeded the standard in ELA, compared to 56.6 percent for Alameda County and 47.1 percent for all of California. In mathematics, 70.0 percent of FUSD students met or exceeded the standard, compared to 46.1 percent for Alameda County and 33.4 percent for all of California.
- Overall English language arts performance improved since the 2019 Dashboard, from 72.9 to 75.1 points above standard.
- Focused suspension prevention efforts since the 2019 Dashboard resulted in a decreased percentage of African American students suspended, down from 7.2 percent to 4.9 percent.
- Despite declines in math performance since the 2019 Dashboard by all other student groups, Students with Disabilities maintained, moving only 0.5 points from 79.4 to 79.9 points below standard.
- The 2022 Dashboard indicates that two student groups, Homeless and Foster Youth, were in the lowest performance category on multiple areas: Homeless for English language arts and math Academic Indicators, Chronic Absenteeism, and Graduation Rate; and Foster Youth for Chronic Absenteeism and Suspension Rate.
- FUSD met standards on all five local measures.
Since the 2019 Dashboard, reclassified English Learners made a significant increase in English language arts, from 65.8 to 80.5 points above standard, surpassing the English Only student group, which had a modest improvement from 71.3 to 76.4 points above standard.
Reclassified English Learners also improved in math, increasing from 58.6 to 66.6 points above standard in math, while their English Only peers declined from 56.8 to 52.3 points above standard.
According to FUSD, only current year data, referred to as a district’s or school’s status, will be reported on the 2022 Dashboard.
"On the 2023 Dashboard, the CDE intends to return to reporting both Status and Change, which is a comparison of data from the previous year," the district said.
