At Least 5 'Unkempt' Dogs Abandoned Across Bay Area City

FREMONT, CA — Police were seeking the person responsible for abandoning several dogs over the past few days across Fremont.

Five dogs were rescued from different locations between Wednesday and Saturday, according to the Fremont Police Department. Police said all of them were found in comparable unkempt conditions with no identification.

"Our officers believe they may be coming from the same person as this is a particularly unusual situation," the department said on social media.

Two of the dogs were recovered near Quarry Lakes, one was found sheltering under a vehicle on North Grimmer, and two were recovered at Irvington Park, according to the department. All dogs were estimated to be 4 years old.

An additional dog remained at large near Quarry Lakes, and efforts were underway to find it.

The dogs were being cared for and receiving medical attention by the city's animal services, which is part of the police department.
