Man Arrested Following Brief Foot Chase
Before his arrest, the man attempted to drag his ex-girlfriend away from her apartment, but she was able to break free

FREMONT, CA — A Fremont man was arrested for allegedly initiating a police pursuit after he tried to drag his ex-girlfriend out of her apartment, Fremont Police said Friday, Feb. 3.
According to published reports, police responded to reports of an argument between a 28-year-old woman and her 31-year-old ex-boyfriend on Central Avenue Jan. 25.
Officers said the man attempted to drag the woman away from her apartment, but she was able to break free and find safety in her apartment.

The man, who had stolen property from the woman and fled the scene, was later found by police in a parked vehicle by himself in San Lorenzo.
Bay City News reported that police said during an attempt to get him to surrender, the man made several suicide-by-cop statements and pointed a firearm directly in the air

Police said they attempted to de-escalate the situation by repositioning themselves and calling a negotiations expert.
The suspect then exited his car and began to run from the scene near Hesperian Boulevard.
Police said they attempted to use less lethal munitions, which did not work the first time, but the suspect eventually stopped running and was forced to the ground by a deputy.
During the man's arrest, police said they found a pellet gun designed to look like a handgun.
Investigators found that the man purchased the pellet gun just before police contact.
The man was arrested and booked at Santa Rita Jail.
