Men’s Wearhouse Fires Founder George Zimmer aka The 'You’re Going to Like the Way You Look' Guy
The popular suit retailer is based in Fremont.

Fremont-based suit and apparel retailer Men’s Wearhouse announced Wednesday that it has fired company founder and frontman George Zimmer, according to various media reports.
Zimmer became somewhat of an American icon as the face of Men’s Warehouse. He narrated television commercials since the mid-80s, closing with his signature tagline: “You’re going to like the way you look. I guarantee it.” (The line became a haunting pun in Wednesday morning news articles.)
According to the Huffington Post, the company’s announcement came the morning of its annual shareholder meeting, which has since been postponed.

Men’s Wearhouse has yet to give a reason for Zimmer’s firing.
Zimmer founded Men’s Wearhouse in 1973, opening a small store in Texas with his college roommates, selling slacks for $10 and sports coats for $25. He reportedly used a cigar box for a cash register and drove a van with the company’s logo on the side as his personal car, according to the Huffington Post.

Men’s Wearhouse grew to become one of the country’s largest specialty men’s retailers with 1,143 locations, adding casual sportswear and tuxedo rentals to its arsenal. The company also runs the Moores and K&G retail chains.
The company closed the latest fiscal year on Feb. 2 with $2.48 billion in revenues, according to the Huffington Post. In addition, the company reported a 23 percent increase in profits in the first quarter of its fiscal year.
Zimmer stepped down as CEO in 2011 but remained the face of Men’s Wearhouse. Zimmer was still prominently featured on the company’s website Wednesday afternoon.
