Multiple Phone Scams Targeting Fremont Residents: Police
The scammers impersonate local police and city staff.
FREMONT, CA — Fremont is warning residents of phone scams in which callers impersonate local police and city staff.
Residents have reported calls from numbers displaying “Fremont PD” and “County of Alameda” on caller identification, according to authorities, who said the scammers claim to be law enforcement officials calling about “serious immigration issues” that need to be resolved immediately.
Other residents have reported receiving calls in which the caller asks for permit payments over the phone and cites publicly available permit information.

“It’s important for residents and businesses to know the City will never call to demand personal or financial information, issue threats, or request payments over the phone,” Fremont police said in a social media post.

- Don’t rely on caller identification. Scammers can manipulate it.
- If you receive a suspicious call, hang up immediately.
- Report scam calls to the Federal Trade Commission at reportfraud.ftc.gov.
