Fremont Announces Fire Chief Curtis Jacobson’s Resignation

The city is is currently evaluating the steps to select its next fire chief.

FREMONT, CA — Earlier this month, Fremont City Manager Karena Shackelford accepted Fire Chief Curtis Jacobson’s resignation, effective April 6, 2023, the city of Fremont announced in a news release.

Jacobson began his fire service career 31 years ago with the city of San Jose where he spent 25 years serving in numerous positions. While in San Jose he was promoted to the rank of Fire Chief before joining the city of Fremont as the city’s eighth fire chief.

"During Jacobson’s tenure, the Fremont Fire Department was instrumental in managing the city’s response to COVID, building the City’s Office of Emergency Services division, responding to increasingly dangerous regional fire seasons and diversifying personnel," the news release dated Feb. 15 said.

Shackleford said the she is currently evaluating the steps to select the city's next fire chief.

“I would like to thank Chief Jacobson for his years of public service here in the City of Fremont,” Shackelford said.
