• Serra Center marks 50th anniversary (tricityvoice.com) — Fremont residents should know Serra Center just marked 50 years of supporting adults with developmental disabilities, including 24/7 care at its Valpey Park and Ellen Homes in Fremont. A recent $50,000 gift from Fremont Bank Foundation is helping renovate aging bathrooms there, improving safety and comfort for residents. The nonprofit now serves more than 80 people across eight East Bay cities.
   

• Immigrant advocates sue California over DMV cancellations of commercial driver's licenses (localnewsmatters.org) — Fremont’s sizable Sikh trucking community could be hit hard as California moves to cancel about 20,000 immigrants’ commercial driver’s licenses over DMV date errors, prompting a new class-action lawsuit. Advocates say many Sikh drivers followed the rules and now face losing their livelihoods in early January, while federal pressure and state law are driving the crackdown.
