2. Wish Book: Asian Americans for Community Involvement gives seniors a new lease on life (mercurynews.com) — A Fremont senior, Claudia Hau, found friendship, travel opportunities, and vital support through Asian Americans for Community Involvement’s Senior Wellness Program, which serves many low-income, immigrant older adults. The San Jose-based nonprofit is now struggling with federal funding cuts and rising demand, and Wish Book is raising $25,000 so nearly 200 seniors can keep accessing meals, classes, and social activities.

3. SkillSprout holds winter drive (tricityvoice.com) — A student-led nonprofit founded at Mission San Jose High in Fremont is running a Winter Equipment Drive to get sports gear to underserved young athletes across the Bay Area through January 15, 2026. SkillSprout aims to collect $10,000 in equipment, building on $47,000 in donations already given to youth through school and nonprofit partners. Residents can schedule home pickup or arranged drop-off via the group’s website.

4. Cats, guns and ICE: 7 new California laws in 2026 (eastbaytimes.com) — Several new California laws taking effect in 2026 will touch Fremont residents, including stricter school smartphone limits building on policies already in Fremont Unified classrooms. Other measures ban cat declawing, phase out plastic grocery bags, cap insulin costs, tighten gun storage rules, raise the minimum wage, and expand student anti-discrimination protections. These changes roll out starting January 1 and through 2026.

5. Tesla Supplier Slashes $2.9B 4680 Battery Deal 99% Amid Setbacks (webpronews.com) — Tesla’s troubled 4680 battery program has hit another snag, with key supplier L&F slashing a $2.9 billion materials deal to almost nothing, raising questions about future production.
