Small Business Saturday: Local Shops Offer Discounts
Find out more about some local stores' promotions for the start of the holiday shopping season.
With all the holiday shopping, it may be easy to pass up on the smaller stores – but don’t forget about them.
Celebrate Small Business Saturday by shopping at all your favorite local stores, and around here, there are plenty of them.
The Tri-Cities has a number of shops that specialize in various goods, including comic books and figures, antiques, quilts, craft supplies, pet treats and more.

In Fremont’s Niles district, Color Me Quilts and More will be celebrating its 6th year anniversary along with Small Business Saturday this entire weekend. The store, which specializes in yarn, fabrics and knitting materials, will give customers who shop between Friday and Sunday 20 percent off their entire purchase.
Color Me Quilts will also give its customers a free gift with each purchase, until supplies run out. The offer excludes sale items, gift cards and consignment and sample items. Color Me Quilts and More is located at 37495 Niles Blvd. in Fremont.

Newark’s Hot Toys II and Hot Toys will open early on Black Friday – at midnight to be exact. A Hot Toys II employee said customers will find numerous items for discounted prices. Both stores, which are located on the lower level of NewPark Mall near Burlington Factory, are known to buy and sell collectibles and vintage toys, including Disney figures and gaming systems.
In Union City, Comic and Figure Addicts will be holding a two-day holiday sale for Black Friday and Small Business Saturday. Everything in the Smith Street store will be on sale. Also, the store will be collecting unwrapped toys for Toys for Tots. The store will be open at their usual business hours from noon to 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Comic and Figure Addicts is located at 3902 Smith St. in Union City.
If you really want to shop local, save your pennies for December. The Niles Main Street Association will also be hosting a Holiday Shopping in Niles event on Dec. 8 and 9.
During that time, participating stores located in Fremont’s Niles district will offer discounts and the Niles Main Street Association will have a drawing in which three winners will be awarded $100 gift certificates, according to Carol Williamson, owner of My Friends and I – an antique shop located in Niles.
