Officials of the Fremont-based Tri-City Health Center recently received a $54,568 check — part of $2 million in grants the Safeway Foundation announced it is giving back to community health programs and hospitals to launch grass-roots projects for the prevention and treatment of childhood obesity in the Bay Area and nationwide.
Safeway officials presented the check to Tri-City Health Center Interim CEO Juliana Schirmer at one of its Fremont stores at 3900 Argonaut Way.

The “Innovative Approaches to Preventing Childhood Obesity” grants are a part of an overall outreach and commitment to community health that has become synonymous with Safeway Inc., one of the largest supermarket companies in the U.S.
