Female students from Fresno Unified high schools went hammer to hammer in a Women in Construction competition March 12 at Fresno High School. The Girl Build was part of Fresno Unified’s efforts to encourage more female students to pursue careers in construction-related fields and gave students a chance to showcase their skills. Teams competed in the categories of Creativity, Craftmanship, Teamwork, Risk-Taker and Safety.

Fresno High School’s construction program and the National Association of Women in Construction Fresno Chapter 108 sponsored the competition.
“This competition highlighted the encouraging progress we are making in attracting female students to a traditionally male-dominated industry, and it aligns with one of our goals for students – to expand their real-world learning experiences,” Superintendent Bob Nelson said.
